Downtown is anchored by the 1929 Akron Civic Theatre — the "Jewel on Main Street" — and its newer 200-seat Knight Stage that opened in 2021. Across the way, Lock 3's Maynard Performance Pavilion holds up to 3,500 people and runs free outdoor concerts every weekend from May through September, plus year-round ice rinks and food. The Akron Art Museum, Musica, E.J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall, the John S. Knight Center, and Canal Park (home of the RubberDucks) sit within walking distance, alongside a dense block of restaurants and breweries. Downtown was also the site of the 1851 Ohio Women's Rights Convention where Sojourner Truth delivered her "Ain't I A Woman?" speech — historical weight that still threads through the calendar.
