North Hill Community Events

One of Akron's most culturally rich communities and home to the second-largest Nepali-Bhutanese community in the United States — more than 5,000 refugees have resettled here since the first family arrived in 2008. The North Hill Community Development Corporation and the Exchange House (a multicultural gathering space opened by the Better Block Foundation in February 2017) anchor a calendar of ESL classes, health workshops, concerts by the Nepali Druk Fusion band, a community garden, and multicultural festivals. North High School is roughly half South Asian and fields one of the region's strongest soccer teams; storefronts that sat empty for years have filled with immigrant-owned small businesses.
