Middlebury Events

The oldest community in Akron — its own community until officially merging with the city in 1872, and founded by sea captain Joseph Hart and miller Aaron Norton in 1807 when they built a grist mill on the Little Cuyahoga. The Merrill family started Middlebury's pottery industry in 1847; in 1898 the Seiberling brothers founded Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company here, and Mohawk, Phoenix, and Kelly-Springfield followed by 1921. Today the community borders the University of Akron, the former Goodyear HQ (now The East End), and Summa Hospital, and it's a focus of active community revitalization efforts. Expect a calendar of community-association programs, small-venue events, and history walks.
