New Franklin is the largest city by area in Summit County, formed in 2003 from the former Franklin Township and the villages of Clinton and Manchester. The city wraps around much of the Portage Lakes — Turkeyfoot, Long, East Reservoir, Nimisila — which together anchor the local event calendar through Portage Lakes State Park and the lakefront restaurants and marinas. The Portage Lakes Polar Bear Jump (every February since 1981) is the city's signature event, drawing thousands. Expect a calendar weighted toward lakefront events, parks programs, and seasonal community gatherings.
